What should your implant quote contain?
An itemised implant quote should identify the proposed treatment, quantities, components, inclusions, exclusions, payment stages and arrangements if the plan changes. Ask for those details before paying a deposit.
We are dentists at a clinic in Antalya, Turkey. We give written itemised plans. The checklist below is our practical advice for comparing any clinic's document.
Start by marking each entry as included, excluded or awaiting assessment. Ask the clinic to complete unclear entries in writing. Keep the dated quote with its treatment plan and terms.
- Match the treatment scope and pricing unit before comparing totals.
- Check the implant, connector, temporary teeth and final teeth separately.
- Request written conditions for additional procedures and changes after examination.
- Agree follow-up responsibilities and deposit terms before paying.
Identify exactly which treatment is proposed
Ask for the diagnosis: the problem the dentist proposes to treat. The document should identify the tooth positions, teeth to retain or remove, and planned implant quantity.
Specify whether the plan describes a single replacement tooth, a bridge replacing several teeth, or a full arch covering the upper or lower jaw. Ask whether the replacement is fixed in place or removable by you. Request a diagram matching the written description.
Active gum disease needs treatment before implant therapy1.
Ask whether keeping teeth, a conventional bridge, a removable denture, waiting or leaving a gap could meet your needs. Ask what each option would mean clinically.
For suitability and risk discussions, use Before Dental Implant Treatment: Questions to Ask the Clinic. Keep this document focused on the treatment actually quoted.
Match the pricing unit and the components
Write the unit beside every charge: per implant, per replacement tooth, per bridge or per arch. An arch means the upper or lower row of teeth. Ask whether a jaw total includes surgery and replacement teeth.
These units describe different things. Implants anchor replacement teeth, which may be crowns, bridges or dentures2. Implant quantity therefore cannot tell you everything included in the restoration, meaning the replacement teeth.
The illustration below shows an implant in the jaw, an abutment connecting it to the restoration, and a crown forming the visible tooth1.
Ask the quote to name the final material, such as ceramic or acrylic resin, and any supporting framework. Request clarification when a material description applies only to temporary teeth.
Compare the appropriate treatment descriptions for single-tooth implants and full-mouth implant treatment.

| What to request in writing | |
|---|---|
| Implant placement | Positions, quantity, components and surgical work included |
| Abutments | Connectors included and any separate fitting charge |
| Temporary teeth | Type, fitting stage, adjustments and replacement terms |
| Final restoration | Teeth covered, fixed or removable design, material and framework |
| Total | Included items, exclusions, conditional items and payment stages |
Separate confirmed treatment from assessment-dependent items
Ask which examination and imaging charges are included. Radiographs are X-ray images. Cone-beam computed tomography, or CBCT, produces a three-dimensional image of the jaws and face (the maxillofacial structures)3.
Imaging decisions should follow a clinical examination and reflect your individual needs3. Ask what remains uncertain if the quote was prepared remotely. The plan may change when examination and imaging findings become available.
List possible extractions, meaning tooth removal, separately. Bone grafting builds up bone at an implant site1. A sinus lift raises the sinus floor to develop bone for implants in the upper back jaw4.
For each possible addition, request the reason, charging basis and effect on the schedule. Ask what happens if you decline it. Request a revised written total before agreeing to changed treatment.
Ask for a stage-by-stage schedule
Bone healing around an implant takes time, and the timing of replacement teeth varies between patients2. Ask for estimated healing periods and the findings needed before the next stage can proceed.
Request the expected trips, appointments and length of each stay. Identify which appointments involve assessment, surgery, checking healing, fitting temporary teeth and fitting the final restoration. Ask who confirms readiness for the next visit.
Record what happens if healing takes longer or a planned stage cannot proceed. Include any extra accommodation, travel or appointment charges in your own budget. Our dental treatment abroad guide covers wider travel planning.
Ask what you will wear during healing. A temporary crown, bridge or denture may be provided while the final replacement is prepared2. Have its fitting, adjustments and replacement terms written down.
Clarify medicines, anaesthesia and sedation
Ask whether the quote includes local anaesthesia, medicines supplied at the clinic and medicines you must obtain separately. Local anaesthesia numbs the treatment area.
If sedation, medication to help you relax, is proposed, request its type and a separate description of what the charge covers. Ask about assessment, monitoring, recovery arrangements and any escort requirement.
Request written preparation and aftercare instructions before booking that stage. Ask who answers medicine questions after you leave. A fee entry should identify what is included; the treating dentist must explain what is appropriate for you.
Put follow-up responsibilities beside the fees
Implants in function need a structured care programme with periodic assessment of the surrounding tissues5. Ask which reviews, cleaning appointments and adjustments are included, and when separate charges begin.
Identify who handles a loose restoration, a damaged temporary tooth or a suspected complication. Request a contact route, arrangements outside opening hours and the process for deciding whether local treatment or a return visit is needed.
Discuss your plan with your own dentist6, and ask whether they could provide follow-up care if needed. Have any agreed responsibilities recorded rather than assuming a local appointment is included.
Ask who pays for assessment, repair, further treatment and additional travel. Ask your insurer what it covers, and check the rules of the health service in the country where you live.
Specify the records you will take home
Request the final treatment plan, treatment summary, radiographs, aftercare instructions and material details. Ask specifically for the implant system, component references, dimensions, positions and lot identifiers, which identify manufacturing batches.
Turkey's health tourism regulation requires an invoice or receipt accompanied by a breakdown of services and unit charges7. On request, it also requires free copies of the lists of medicines and consumables charged to you, and of the results and radiological images of tests you paid for7.
The same regulation requires facilities that treat international health tourists to hold an authorisation certificate (yetki belgesi)7; ask to see it.
The billing provision does not replace your request for a clear quote before treatment. Ask when records will be available and in which language and format.
For broader record, licence and complaint checks, see Choosing a Dental Clinic: What to Check and What to Ask.
Keep consent separate from accepting the quote
Informed consent means understanding the proposed care before choosing whether to agree. FDI guidance says you should be fully informed about the diagnosis, the benefits and risks of treatment or no treatment, future treatment and potential costs8.
It also supports a discussion in both directions and time to reflect before complex or elective procedures8. Ask for alternatives and risks relevant to your situation in language you understand.
You can decide against the proposed treatment. Ask what waiting would mean and whether less extensive care is reasonable. If explanations remain unclear, pause the decision. The evidence cited here cannot determine your personal suitability, required visits or final treatment total.
Resolve these questions before paying a deposit
We suggest saving the final document and its attachments together. Check the clinic's legal identity, quote date, validity period and contact details.
- What treatment and components does the total cover?
- Which entries depend on examination, imaging or healing?
- How will changes be explained, approved and documented?
- When is each payment due, and what does the deposit reserve?
- What happens to the deposit if treatment is unsuitable, postponed or declined?
- Which cancellation and refund terms apply, including deadlines and deductions?
- Does any complication insurance apply to your procedure, and what does it cover?
- What complaint route applies if a billing or treatment dispute remains unresolved?
Ask for written answers before paying.
When to see a dentist
Arrange an examination before committing to treatment whose suitability remains uncertain. After treatment, bleeding or swollen gums around an implant, or a loose implant restoration, need prompt dental assessment1.
Seek care where you are rather than waiting for travel or a remote reply. Intense pain, a swollen face or jaw, or a high temperature9 can signal an infection and need an urgent dental appointment. Some signs need emergency care: difficulty breathing, speaking or swallowing, a lot of swelling in your mouth, a swollen or painful eye, or sudden problems with your eyesight9. Call your local emergency number or go to the nearest emergency department. In Turkey, call 11210.
Frequently asked questions
Does a per-implant quote include the final tooth?
Ask for separate confirmation of the implant, abutment, temporary teeth and final restoration. The unit label alone does not explain the inclusions.
Can the quote change after examination?
It may change when assessment clarifies what treatment is appropriate. Ask which items remain provisional and request a revised written plan before agreeing.
Should bone grafting be listed separately?
Ask whether it is included, excluded or dependent on assessment. Request the reason, charging basis and effect on the treatment schedule.
Can I assume aftercare at home is included?
Ask who provides it and who pays. Speak with your dentist at home before treatment and keep any agreed arrangements with your quote.
What if I decide against treatment after paying?
Read the cancellation and refund terms before paying. Ask how they apply if you decline treatment or the examination shows the proposed plan is unsuitable.
